This is a 4 panel digipak template/net. This is a basic CD case and features one CD with the cover and back having a track list. I do like this one and I think it would work well for a new upcoming artist who not many people know but I think it limits the artist as to what they can put in it like extra features etc. I have included an example of what a 4 panel digipak would look like as a finished piece. I have looked at this so I can get an idea of what mine would look like if I chose to use a 4 panel.
This is a six panel digipak template/net and as you can see it is much more technical and allows you to fit a lot more in. After looking at albums from the likes of Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande etc, I feel as though I can create something similar to appeal to my audience. The net shows where everything would be placed and I am going to use this template when I create my own digipak on Photoshop CS6. I have also included an image of Nicki Minaj's 'The Re-up' as this is a similar example of what mine would look like if I created my own 6 panel. Hers features 3 discs, 2 CD's and a DVD showing extras. Instead of casing, Nicki has pockets in her CD, this is a good idea but I would much prefer to have a tray rather than pockets. The reason behind this is because I actually own this CD and the discs occasionally fall out so this would not be good. Obviously with my artist being a boy, my cover will be quite different to the one above but I am going to look at an existing CD from my songs artist and some other artists of that genre so I can take inspiration from to keep my digipak following the conventions of indie-pop.
Having a 6 panel digipak allows me to create 2 CD's, one with the songs on and then the second CD with extra features like music videos and behind the scenes. This is something most artists seem to do when releasing an album from what I have seen. When I create my own digipak, I want it to represent my artist and their music, much like a few of these following albums:
These are a few albums I have found that I feel represent the artist and their music. The cover of Roman Reloaded represents Nicki's crazy attitude and it also represents the type of songs on the album like: Starships, Pound the Alarm and Whip It. I feel as though Rated R represents Rihanna's rebellious attitude and how explicit some of her songs can be. The name matches this perfectly and also the dark colours represent the rebellious behaviour. The Teenage Dream cover is kind of similar to Roman Reloaded in a way as it is colourful and it represents Katy Perry's wacky attitude and the majority of the songs on the album are upbeat, especially California Gurls which I think is represented by the text used on the cover. Lastly, I think Bangerz represents Miley and her crazy lifestyle as the title 'Bangerz' is random, much like Miley's behaviour. I feel she has done this to gain publicity and the change of image in comparison to Hannah Montana, which she wanted to escape and not be associated with anymore as she is grown up.
