Digital
Technology
Throughout the course and while producing my work, I believe that I
learnt a lot about editing on Photoshop and I developed my skills quickly. I
used a Canon 1000D and I learnt a lot about using this camera, including how to
frame the perfect picture to go onto a front cover of a magazine, and how not
to frame a picture so that I wouldn’t make any mistakes and make the look of my
product unprofessional. On my first task, the college magazine, it clearly
shows my lack of knowledge and skills which is why it is so basic and
unconventional. I used the ‘text tool’ many times for my college magazine to
add masthead, headings, subheadings, plugs and feature stories. As I didn’t
know sites like dafont existed, I used the basic fonts which I found on
Photoshop, like: Arial, Calibri and Georgia. I also adjusted the levels for my
front cover image to make sure it was the right brightness and contrast. On my
final product, you can clearly see how far my skills developed in terms of how
I used digital technology, as it looks a lot more like a professional magazine
and it is also conventional, using the right camera skills so that it is the
correct lighting and framing and also editing skills if there are any flaws or
parts that are unnecessary on the magazine. For my final product, I used a
range of different tools, including: the spot healing brush, the eraser, the
brush tool and the quick selection tool. With the spot healing brush, I used
this on my model to erase any flaws because on existing magazines they were
edited so they were no flaws at all so doing this made it conventional and made
my model look appealing to the target audience. I used the eraser to edit the
background of my front cover image out because I only wanted the model to
appear. Finally, the use of the quick selection tool became useful when I
wanted to erase big amounts of the image as using the eraser took up more of my
time so the eraser was better for erasing small parts.
