Where My Video Would Be Featured/Advertised

As I begin to start shooting my music video, I need to think about how the audience will access it. Currently, the internet is full of sites which host videos to a mass audience, like: YouTube, Vimeo, Vevo and MyVideo. These sites are very well known and are a good place to advertise my music video to a mass audience. Obviously, YouTube and Vevo are the most used out of these with them catering for a worldwide audience. Sites like Vimeo and MyVideo cater for a more niche audience compared to YouTube and Vevo.

I will firstly post my music video to YouTube as it is most used and therefore my audience can access it easier and I will gain a more mass audience. The company say that: "300 hours of new videos are uploaded to the site every minute" and that "more than 1 billion unique users visit the site each month". It is estimated that in the year 2007, YouTube consumed as much bandwidth as the entire Internet in the year 2000, according to research. There are many ways in which YouTube advertise, as shown below, in the music video for Anaconda by Nicki Minaj, another video has been advertised within her video to promote it. As Anaconda is a well known video, this will gain the video advertised more viewers as people may want to look at it.

Also, I use YouTube quite a lot to watch 'YouTubers' and in one of Gabriella Lindley's (velvetgh0st) video, she has an advertisement which suggests viewers to watch another video. I really like this idea and is a possible way in which I can advertise my own music video as it will encourage fans in particular to watch it because a certain person, who is well known, suggests to watch it. Also, the majority of velvetgh0st's and other YouTubers audience are the age range I want to aim my music video at.

There are also a lot of social networking sites that allowed videos from YouTube etc to be embedded on to their site. This is also another good way to promote my music video as sites like: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram etc, allow this to happen. Also, all of these sites have a mass audience so therefore my product would be viewed by this audience, gaining it more views. Facebook was founded on February 4th, 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. At the end of January, it was announced that 1.23 billion users were active on the site every month and on December 31st it was said that 945 million of this total were identified as mobile users by the company.

As it has been proved, when something is posted on Facebook, it can be spread around the world in a matter of days, which proves how powerful social media really is. As Facebook allows you to embed videos, I think this would be a good place to feature/advertise my music video as a lot of people will see it. I also really like how on the side of your news feed on Facebook you can get small advertisements which people pay to have to promote their business or films etc. This will also be a good way to promote my music video as it is in a place where people can see so they will be drawn to looking at it.

Another way which would be good to advertise my music video is posting on Instagram. Instagram is an online mobile photo sharing, video sharing and social networking site, founded on October 6th 2010, which is owned by Facebook and it allows its users to take photos and videos and share them online to other sites like: Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. On December 10th, it reached 1 million users and by April 2012, it was announced that over 30 million accounts had been registered on the app. As of August 2011, the total number of photos uploaded was 150 million and in May 2012, it was said that 58 photos were being uploaded and a new user was gained each second.

This is a good way to promote both my music and my artist, as it allows me to upload photos so therefore I could upload the artists artwork and promote the music in the caption by encouraging people to listen to it. For example: Beyonce made a self-titled album which nobody knew about and she announced the news of the album on social networking sites, including Instagram by posting the albums artwork much to her fans surprise. The release generated over 1.2 million tweets in 12 hours due to the surprise release of her album and with no promotion the record sold 828,773 copies worldwide in its first three days of it being available, becoming the fastest-selling album in the history of the iTunes Store. When the album got released into stores, it went onto selling over 5 million copies worldwide.

You can also post video snippets/sound snippets on Instagram which is also a good way to promote music. As Instagram only has a limit on how long the video you can only put parts of videos or music on. This is also a thing which could lead to the viewers/fans wanting more and encouraging them to listen to the full thing, therefore gaining the product sales and views. For example, Nicki Minaj posted snippets of her new song 'Bed of Lies' onto Instagram along with the artwork, she received positive feedback in the comments and people wanted to listen to more of it. The song was released on November 16th 2014 and the song is set to debut at number 14 sales predictions are at 130,000 - 140,000 digital downloads.

The last thing on Instagram is sponsored posts. These posts come up on your timeline even if you do not follow this account. This is a good way to promote work as if people are looking down their feed, they will see it and it may encourage them to look at the advert in more depth, especially if a song is posted then they may want to follow the link and listen to it in full.

Another social media site would be Twitter. Twitter is a social networking site that enables users to send out 'tweets'. Twitter was created in March of 2006 and the service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with more than 100 million users who in 2012 posted 340 million tweets per day. As of July 2014, has more than 500 million users and out of which more than 271 of them are active users.

Katy Perry is currently the most followed on Twitter with 60.3 million users following her with Justin Bieber coming second with just under 57.1 million following him. These are examples of people who use twitter to communicate with fans but also promote their music.

As shown below, Katy is currently on her world tour named 'Prismatic' and she has promoted this well using her Twitter. She has used her header as the tours title, changed her twitter picture to it and also put in her bio that she is 'currently beaming on the prismatic world tour 2014'.
While researching about Katy, I came across a picture of a golden truck which had her name, the albums name and the release date on. I searched about this and it is said that the golden truck drove round and revealed the name of her album and that it was going to be released on October 22nd 2013. This would have made people aware of its release date and therefore they would have known when it was available to buy. This is a very clever way to promote.

Lastly, Nicki Minaj is also a celebrity who uses her Twitter well to promote upcoming singles and albums. She is at 18.4 million fans and currently, the release date for her third album 'The PinkPrint' is nearing (December 15th, 2014) and Nicki is using this time to promote it before it comes out, therefore people will know about it. She has the album cover as her header, her icon and her bio also mentions the release date, including the song 'Only' which is now on iTunes. This will be visible for everyone who sees her

Overall, there are many different sites in which you can post videos on which can advertise your video but these are the main ones I would like my video to feature on as they are well known and a lot of people use them, therefore if I advertised my video here I would not have wasted my time as I know that people will definitely see it opposed to if I just posted it on somewhere like Vimeo without no other promotion as not a lot of people would be able to find it.
